On
November 16th 2006, a Broadway version
of the musical debuted at the New Amsterdam
Theatre after previews from October 14th.
The only obvious differences from the
London production are that Jolly Holiday
is staged in technicolor instead of the
gray tones of the London show and in Anything
Can Happen where there was once a backdrop
of chimney sweeps on ladders holding lamplighters/stars,
there is now a plain backdrop, and Mary
Poppins' umbrella (many times its size)
enters from the stage floor with the characters
later boarding the giant umbrella (however,
the chimney sweeps with the lights are
still in the Broadway version). The Broadway
version debuted to mixed reviews ranging
from enthusiastic to mediocre. Buy
