The Maple Leaf. It is by far the most
famous sporting logo in Canada.
Some might even argue that it is Canada's
single-most recognized corporate logo
of any kind. More recognizable, perhaps,
than the logos of Air Canada, Molson,
Royal Bank, or Canadian National.
The former home of the Toronto hockey
club, Maple Leaf Gardens, was often described
as "the most famous building in Canada."
Fittingly, the Toronto Maple Leafs, 84
years young in 2000-2001, have been home
to many of the most famous athletes in
Canadian history.
Clancy. Conacher. Primeau. Jackson. You
didn't even need first names to know them.
Apps. Kennedy. Broda. Meeker. Later, it
was Mahovlich. Horton. Keon. Bower.
Today the names, albeit younger, are
equally familiar watchwords in Canada's
largest metropolis. Sundin. Joseph. Thomas.
Berezin.
To be a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs
is to be a hero. It has been forever thus,
the dream of nearly every youngster born
west of the province of Quebec. Buy
