It has been over three years now, and
still nobody has told the ghosts.
Either that or the fabled "Ghosts
of the Montreal Forum" are simply
taking their sweet time about moving from
their home of 72 years into the new home
of the Montreal Canadiens, the squeaky
clean Molson Centre.
As the crow flies, it's only about a
mile from the Montreal Forum to the Molson
Centre. On foot, it's a mile and half.
Left on rue Ste. Catherine, right on Mountain,
a couple of blocks to de la Gauchetiere,
and you are there. It's a short trip,
maybe 20 minutes tops at a leisurely stroll.
For the Canadiens themselves, not to
mention their thousands and thousands
of fanatical followers, the ghosts' arrival
at the Molson Centre can't happen soon
enough.
Consider the hard statistics. From 1924,
when the Forum was built, to 1996, when
the team moved across town, the Canadiens
won nearly three games for every one they
lost at home.
In the last three seasons at the Molson
Centre, the Habs are barely above .500.
