With
a storied past such as theirs, the ire
of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been raised
regarding an off-the-field baseball matter:
Dodger hero Steve Garvey, who led the
Dodgers to four World Series appearances,
winning the 1974 National League MVP honors,
has been shunned by the baseball writers,
and this is his 15th and last year of
regular eligibility. The crowds at Dodger
Stadium would love to make a cross-country
pilgrimage to Cooperstown to honor the
former workhorse of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lately, Dodger Stadium is known as the
place where they filmed “The Car
Pool Lane,” episode of Curb Your
Enthusiasm. In that edition of the show,
Larry ends up with a hooker in the passenger
seat of his car, just so he can use the
carpool lane, and ends up on TV with the
lady, during a Los Angeles Dodgers game.
Quite a predicament; I wonder what would
Gilligan and the Skipper do? Well, they
would turn over the conundrum to the Professor…
and in the case of the Los Angeles Dodgers,
the most famous Professor in residence
at Dodger Stadium was Tommy Lasorda. Lasorda
took over from Walter Alston, as the revered
manager of the team from Chavez Ravine,
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Buy

As the Los Angeles Dodgers take the Dodger
Stadium field in 2007, young catcher Russell
Martin may be the anchor they need. A
major leaguer with less than a full year
under his padding, in 2006 the Los Angeles
Dodgers were 17-31 when Martin wasn’t
in, 71-43 when he was behind the plate.
While Martin has what passes for staunch
job security in the big leagues, many
of his 2006 Los Angeles Dodger teammates
weren’t as lucky. This season, newcomers
Jason Schmidt and Juan Pierre will be
welcomed to Dodger Stadium, and the team
also has hopes for pitcher Jonathan Figueroa,
who posted a 1.36 ERA in winter ball.
