The
Jacksonville Jaguars became the thirtieth
National Football League (NFL) franchise
in 1993 and the Jaguars began play two
years later. The Jacksonville Jaguars
have been quite successful for an expansion
team. The Jacksonville Jaguars are a National
Football League (NFL) team and one of
four teams playing in the Southern Division
of the American Football Conference (AFC),
which is part of the National Football
League (NFL). The Jaguars play at ALLTEL
Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, and
their uniform colors are, teal, black,
and gold. Jacksonville joined the National
Football League (NFL) as an expansion
team in 1995.
During the Jaguars’ first year,
the team fielded the American Football
Conference’s (AFC) worst defense,
losing nine games by more than twenty
four points. Offensively, however, they
were successful. Mark Brunell, who had
previously played in only two National
Football League (NFL) games, posted the
highest rating of any expansion team quarterback
in league history. He also led all National
Football League (NFL) quarterbacks that
year in rushing, becoming the first American
Football Conference (AFC) quarterback
to run for more than four hundred yards
in a season since Mike Pagel of the Baltimore
Colts (now Indianapolis Colts) in 1983.
Overall, Jacksonville’s offensive
performance ranked third all time among
first year franchises. In 1996 the Jaguars
won nine games and were rewarded with
a wild card berth to the playoffs. Buy
