Kansas City Chiefs contested the first Super Bowl in 1967 when they played against the Green Bay. The Chiefs lost the game 35-10 and three years later they met the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV, where they won 23-7. The Kansas City Chiefs are one of four teams playing in the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC). The Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, and wear uniforms of red, gold, and white. The team was named after Kansas City mayor H. Roe “Chief” Bartle. During the 1960s the Chiefs franchise were the only club to capture three American Football League (AFL) championships. The Dallas Texans became a charter member of the American Football League (AFL) in 1960, and Hank Stram, an assistant at the University of Miami, was hired as the team’s first head coach. Despite the team’s success in the American Football League (AFC), the club suffered economically because of poor fan support, and in 1963 the franchise moved to Kansas City and was renamed the Chiefs.
