Often nasty, abrasive, obstinate, obnoxious
and rude, Billy Joel
proved that you don’t have to be
nice to make it in rock ‘n’
roll. Long Island’s bad boy of the
piano, Billy Joel isn’t
necessarily proud of spitting on fans,
wrecking vehicles while drunk, or being
pissy in general, in his younger days.
Billy Joel’s survival
is a testament to the high quality of
his recordings and live shows; he certainly
didn’t win any fans with his sweet,
winning personality.
Once his competition, Billy Joel
battled guys like Elton John, Bruce Springsteen,
Van Morrison, ZZ Top, One Flight Up, The
Grateful Dead and Leon Russell, for local
concert dollars and radio play. As pugnacious
as he was snotty, the “Big Shot”
has survived, and rocks arenas with his
own brand of honky tonk, ballads and rock
standards. Find
